Munch is your simple recipe to a delightful, stress-free family outing: togetherness, play and wonderful food!
Sharon Selby, Elementary School Teacher (B.Ed), Counsellor (M.A.) mother of two, and author of The Phonics Wizard Learn-to-Read Program (www.thephonicswizard.com) will be speaking about ways that parents can directly teach early literacy skills to their children from ages 2-7. Rhyming, clapping out syllables, playing games with sounds, and other phonological awareness activities can begin to open up a child's world to reading. She will introduce a song that teaches children the phonetic sounds through music and picture associations. She will also introduce parents to many activities that can be incorporated at the dinner table, while driving in the car, or going on a walk with their children. Being able to read is a tremendous source of self-esteem, and parents can play a significant role in supporting their children to become confident readers. Sharon's approach is engaging, multi-sensory and flexible to adapt to each child's needs. There are so many "teachable moments" that occur in every day life and Sharon will show you how to take advantage of these opportunities. hello AT munchmunch.ca
